Access Keys

If you have difficulty in using pointing devices, such as a mouse, then you can navigate the site via your keyboard, using Access Keys.

The system outlined below has been set up:

  1. On every page the main vertical navigation system of silver-grey buttons has been allocated the following Access keys:
    • 0 = Home Page
    • 1 = The School
    • 2 = School Documents
    • 3 = News and Dates
    • 4 = Language College
    • 5 = Subject Departments
    • 6 = Pastoral
    • 7 = Pupils' Area
    • 8 = Links
    • 9 = Contact
    • A = Accessibility
    • S = Staff Area
    • U = Terms of Use

  2. In sub-sections of the site there are additional, horizontal navigation systems using flat grey buttons. Access Keys have been allocated for these links using a sequence of letters, starting with "b" and reading from left to right in alphabetical order. Thus:
    • Six buttons are allocated "b", "c", "d", "e", "f" and "g".
    • Seven buttons are allocated "b", "c", "d", "e", "f", "g" and "h".
    • Nine buttons are allocated "b", "c", "d", "e", "f", "g", "h" "i" and "j".

  3. All other links where Access Keys have been set indicate in the link wording which letter is set as the key by having that letter underlined - e.g. Go to next page.
Using Access Keys

How you use the Access Keys will depend upon the browser you are using:

  1. With PCs using Windows press the "Alt" key and the allocated Access Key at the same time - but note that for PCs using Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or 6 (or later) you will have to follow that by hitting the "Enter" key.
  2. For Macintosh computers, you must press the "Ctrl" key and the allocated Access Key at the same time.
